In loving memory

A written keepsake

Friends, family, thank you for letting me stand here today and share a few words about my dear friend Janine, or as so many of us affectionately called her, Little Janine.

Janine's story began in 1948, in Kiev, a city she carried with her always, even after building her whole beautiful life here. She grew into a woman who loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and never once let a room stay quiet for long. She raised two children she was endlessly proud of, and she shared her home with two dogs who adored her the way we all did, completely and without condition.

Professionally, Janine built a remarkable career in marketing at Cisco. She brought the same energy to her work that she brought to everything else, sharp, quick, always three steps ahead, and somehow still finding time to crack a joke in the middle of a meeting that would have everyone in stitches.

And if you knew Janine, you knew basketball ran in her blood. She could talk stats and standings with the best of them, and heaven help you if you tried to argue with her about a call she disagreed with.

I have to tell you about the comedy club nights. Janine and I would go, and without fail, she would end up laughing so hard she'd have tears running down her face, usually before the comedian even got to the punchline. She had this laugh that was contagious, the kind that made strangers at nearby tables start laughing too, just from hearing her. Those nights are some of my favorite memories, and I will treasure them forever.

Lord, we thank You for the gift of Janine's life, for her laughter, her love, and her light. Comfort her family and all who loved her. Welcome her home into Your peace, and hold her close until we meet again. Amen.
